.:: A new server with new features
03/08/08 @ 06:49am PST
By axlecrusher
Some of you may know that I have been working on new SMO server software. A question was recently posted asking if it is currently possible to play pump it up on SMO (I don't know).

The idea of different game modes is something that I have been thinking about or a while.

Should the new SMO server allow for different types of game play? We all know that Stepmania is able to do other dance modes like pump it up. SM4 also has the ability to do key sounds, making it possible to simulate games such as Popin', Guitar Hero, Amplitude, etc.

The main question is, should SMO include these alternate types of games modes?

This is an open discussion. There are no technical limitations to this discussion. For instance, people may be worried that these alternate game modes could mess up their stats and ranking. We can modify the stats system to differentiate between game types.

Please post your thoughts in this thread.

.:: Stepmania CVS November 2007 Version
11/30/07 @ 08:20pm PST
By Herored
For those that want the latest version of Stepmania 4.0 CVS here it is. Its updated from November 2007. Please let somebody know if the link doesn't work. If you download the program and your songs aren't there you may need to transfer but you shouldn't in some cases.

If you want to go back to a previous version you may if you are having problems with this release with bugs and all but that is up to you. This version should be stable with you and should have the same features.

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/stepmania/StepMania-CVS-20071107.exe
(Let someone know if the link is dead or corrupt.)

Also if you have any problems please post them in the forums. If you have a crash please post them in the Bug Reports and if you just need some technical help just make a thread in the help section. This version should be ok as far as I am concerned and you shoudln't have any problems with it.

Remember themes for 4.0 CVS are not yet supported so they may not work.

.:: Final Working Version of SMO
08/13/07 @ 05:00pm PDT
By Dog_E
I am hear to apologize about the previous announcement I made. In it, I had a link to MY version of SMO .rar'd straight from my computer. This apparently caused an issue for a select few, but seemed to fix the problem for many. I finally sat down today saying I would spend the time finding an old version of SMO that works.. and honestly, people are dumb as hell. This took me about 5 minutes to find a link. In fact, it was in my old thread.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD EITHER OF THESE IF YOUR VERSION OF SMO CURRENTLY WORKS. THERE ARE NO UPDATES OR ANYTHING NEW. THESE ARE JUST STABLE! IF YOU DO CHOOSE TO DOWNLOAD ONE OF THESE STABLE VERSIONS. COMPLETELY WIPE EVERY REMAINING DATA FILE OF YOUR CURRENT STEPMANIA BUILD. [Songs and screenshots can be kept.] Only if you seek the old 3.9 stable online version, should you download it. =]

http://ufpr.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/stepmania/StepMania-CVS-20060831.exe
This is currently an old stable version of SMO which utilizes the STEPMANIA 4.0 THEME.

http://files.filefront.com/Stepmania_395_DDR/;4501358;/fileinfo.html
This is currently an old stable version of SMO which utilizes the STEPMANIA 3.9 THEME. It does include online play though. THANK YOU Blazze for finding this file.

There are 2 versions available here. One which is the 3.9 version with online play that has the old classic theme and one which is the new 4.0 theme with online play that is a stable version that doesn't crash upon load-up and allows log-in. BOTH ARE STABLE AND INCLUDE ONLINE PLAY. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS IN THEME. THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

If there are any issues please reply, but hopefully this will get things squared away once and for all. I do however have a feeling that many computers are just plain not able to handle Stepmania for whatever quirky reasons. Those people will try to be attended to. The latest release of Stepmania that came out a few weeks ago is not stable. I do not recommend downloading it. Playing online is impossible do to the chat box glitch and this renders it only to be used for singe player. At that point, find an old version of 3.9 and boot it up.

Thank you for your time,
Dog_E
